Well as it turns out the entire back of the trailers framing was rotten. I was not expecting to make these types of repairs. I was certainly not planning on removing the aluminum skin but it was the only way to replace the rotten framing. On the positive side I am using pressure treated wood and my framing seems to be much stronger than the original framing. I am hoping that the rest of the framing is in better shape as this has not been an easy fix.

  1. You should check that the pressure treated wood wont cause corrosion with the aluminum skin. I read someplace that some pressure treated woods can cause a bigger problem.

  2. I am glad you mentioned about the corrosion. I knew enough to buy screws that were rated for pressure treated wood but I had not thought about the aluminum skin. I researched and found information about using a polyethylene 10mil barrier between the wood and the aluminum to prevent corrosion. I found a product that is 4" X 180' on a roll with an adhesive back that will be a perfect solution. Thanks for the comment it saved me a lot of potential problems.
